HAWAII CHILDREN YOUTH SUMMIT

Representative Matsumoto was honored to have been invited to be a panelist at the Hawaii Children and Youth Summit on October 10 at the State Capitol Building. It was a great opportunity to join other legislators and youth, where we responded to questions from the audience and discussed important issues affecting our community. Last year, I was unable to participate so I truly appreciated the chance to be involved this time. I enjoyed engaging with everyone and sharing insights to help support our keiki.
ENHANCING DIPLOMATIC TIES AT TAIWAN'S NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION
Representative Garcia was invited by Director General Richard and Mrs. Lin of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to attend the National Day Celebration.

Earlier this year, Rep. Garcia participated in the US Young Leaders Delegation to Taiwan. "Strengthening our diplomatic bonds is important, especially as we work to deter mainland China from provoking escalation in the Taiwan Strait" stated Rep. Garcia.

The individuals captured in the photo above are Director General Lin, Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee Luana Alapa, and Representative Garcia.
MILILANI UKA ELEMENTARY'S TRUNK OR TREAT

Representative Lauren Matsumoto had the opportunity to bring the character "Joy" from "Inside Out 2" to life at Mililani Uka’s Trunk or Treat event, which provided a safe and fun atmosphere for Keiki and their families. The experience was heartwarming as she shared treats and created memories with many in her community. The evening was filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of treats, making it a truly special occasion. Rep. Matsumoto is grateful for the wonderful moments shared and for the connections made during this festive celebration.
MEETING OHA TRUSTEE KAI KAHELE
Representative Elijah Pierick recently had the pleasure of meeting Kai Kahele, the newly elected Trustee of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs for the Big Island. Rep. Pierick enjoys the opportunity to connect with others to engage in meaningful discussions about how to enhance the well-being of the state.
DISCUSSING NEW AFFORDABLE HOUSING INITIATIVES IN KAPOLEI
To tackle the pressing issue of affordable housing development in Kapolei, Representative Garcia met with developers and stakeholders who are spearheading an affordable housing development project next to Kapolei Commons.

Among those present were Kaulana Park, Vice President of Laulima Hawaii, and Ryozo Ariyoshi, son of former Governor George Ariyoshi. Rep. Garcia is committed to ensuring that all current and future development is geared towards local families and affordability.
KIPAPA ELEMENTARY COMMUNITY PARTNER BREAKFAST

Representative Lauren Matsumoto extends a heartfelt Mahalo to Kipapa Elementary School for the invitation to their Community Partner Breakfast. The event provided a valuable opportunity to hear from Principal Duarte and Vice Principal Domingo, as well as to engage with other dedicated community partners. Rep. Matsumoto is grateful for the hard work and collaboration that goes into supporting Hawaii’s keiki and looks forward to continued partnership in strengthening the community.
ADDRESSING SINKHOLE CONCERNS WITH KANEHILI HOMESTEADERS
Representative Garcia held a meeting with the residents of Kanehili Hawaiian Homesteaders, accompanied by officials from the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, to address the concerning issue of sinkholes emerging in the residents' backyards.

This meeting facilitated discussions on the situation and explored potential solutions to mitigate the impact of the sinkholes on the community.
MILILANI HOMECOMING GAME

What an exciting night at the Mililani High School homecoming game for Representative Lauren Matsumoto and her children! As a proud alumna of the class of 2005, returning to her alma mater was a meaningful experience, filled with fond memories and school spirit. Rep. Matsumoto enjoyed cheering on the Mililani Trojans to their impressive 42-17 homecoming victory. Sharing the excitement of the evening with her children made it even more special, and seeing their joy as they supported the team was truly unforgettable. It was a memorable night for all!
JOINING HOUSE HEALTH COMMITTEE IN VISIT TO NEW DANIEL K. AKAKA VETERANS HOME IN KAPOLEI

Earlier this month, Representative Garcia joined fellow members of the House Health Committee on a site visit to the newly completed Daniel K. Akaka Veterans Home in Kapolei, located across Walmart.

The facility, set to open early next year, will provide medical care and supervision for our veterans who have served our country. Representative Garcia remains a strong advocate for veterans and bringing this state project to the heart of Kapolei is a significant and welcomed development for the community.
MEETING WITH CONSTITUENTS
Representative Pierick recently met with constituents in Ewa during a community meeting. He engaged in discussions about the district and listened to the community's needs. During the meeting, he listened to different perspectives of residents and connected with new individuals, all in an effort to learn more and address the concerns of District 39 and the state of Hawaii.
BRINGING ATTENTION TO NEW FEMA FLOOD ZONE MAPS
Representative Garcia is committed to ensuring that his constituents are fully informed about the potential impacts of the updated flood risk designations and changes issued by FEMA. Understanding the concerns surrounding these updates, particularly for those living in areas newly identified as high-risk, Garcia emphasizes the importance of transparency and local input.

He is pushing for town hall meetings that include local, state, and federal representation to provide a platform for his constituents to raise their questions and concerns. Garcia is also willing to collaborate with congressional leaders to explore making flood insurance coverage optional, rather than mandatory, for affected homeowners, giving them greater flexibility and control over their decisions.

While FEMA highlights the importance of improving understanding of flood risks nationwide, Representative Garcia wants to ensure that his community has the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and have a say in how these changes impact their homes and livelihoods.

During their visit, they immersed themselves in the aftermath, gaining insights into the resilience and determination among the locals. By engaging directly with survivors of the Lahaina Wildfire, they asked pressing questions about the adequacy of government response, the effectiveness of communication efforts, and the development of a plan for the future.
