John,
I’m just jumping off our latest Facebook Live, where I spoke about our work to flip anti-equality state legislatures and elect pro-equality majorities across the country. If you missed our conversation, you can watch it here. [[link removed]]
One big part of the conversation? Our BRAND NEW Majorities Matter Fund. Here’s the gist: in 2020, we’re going to flip anti-equality legislatures across the country by electing LGBTQ candidates in key states and districts. Donate today and support the Majorities Matter Fund! [[link removed]]
Here’s why having a pro-equality state legislature matters in your state – and why we must flip state legislatures across the country in 2020. In 2019, our LGBTQ candidates – Danica Roem, Adam Ebbin, Dawn Adams, Mark Levin and Mark Sickles – were key to flipping the Virginia state legislature and securing a pro-equality majority. Our hard work paid off. Virginia passed a ban on conversion therapy, repealed state-level legislation banning marriage equality, updated hate crimes legislation to include gender identity and sexual orientation - and that’s just the start.
This is how all legislatures should operate. We’ve had enough of legislators who don’t prioritize equality or scientific facts, leaving all of us at risk. In states like Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Michigan, there’s still a lot of work to be done and a lot of seats that need to flip.
That’s why we’re committing – with your help – to bringing the rainbow wave to key swing seats. We know we have a tough fight ahead to elect Ann Johnson to the Texas House, Kim Johnson to the Georgia Senate, Shevrin Jones to the Florida Senate and Marque Snow to the Nebraska Legislature (to start!), while defending our incumbents from a wave of dark money attacks. And we’ll need your help to keep this essential work going. Donate to our Majorities Matter Fund today to help us start strong! Another positive? On Election Day, our LGBTQ candidates will drive pro-equality voters to the polls, boosting turnout. And when there’s higher turnout for the local races, that means a boost in Congressional Districts, Senate races and yes – even the Presidential race. As I said I today, our LGBTQ candidates are essential to taking back the White House and winning the Presidency.
Now, imagine what we could do if we flipped state legislatures in states like Texas, Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina. Imagine if in 2020, the surge of pro-equality voters helped us DOUBLE the number of openly LGBTQ people in the United States Congress. Imagine if we elected a pro-equality Senate and pushed a pro-equality champion into the White House.
Now stop imagining – and help make it a reality. Donate to our Majorities Matter Fund today. [[link removed]]

LGBTQ Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBTQ candidates win elections up and down the ballot, from sea to shining sea since our founding in 1991. We believe representation is power – so we elected U.S. Senators Tammy Baldwin and Kyrsten Sinema, Governors Jared Polis and Kate Brown, all seven LGBTQ members of U.S. Congress and countless candidates for state and local government, including Virginia Delegate Danica Roem, Colorado state Representative Leslie Herod and Pennsylvania Assemblymember Brian Sims. And with an unprecedented number of LGBTQ people running for office in this year, we’ll need your support to make 2020 the next Rainbow Wave.
