These numbers paint a grim picture.
October 1st marked the end of the federal fiscal year; it also marked the end of another terrible year for the border. Fiscal year 2024 was the second worst year in history for illegal alien crossings, only surpassed by last year!
Despite what some in the mainstream press claim, the Biden/Harris Administration has been the worst in history when it comes to protecting America's borders.
Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (TN) released the border numbers over the last four fiscal years, comparing them to the previous four years.
- Illegal alien encounters have more than doubled over the last four years to 10.8 million.
- Illegal alien encounters at the Southern border have more than quadrupled to 8.72 million.
- Known gotaways have quadrupled to approximately 2 million.
- Apprehensions of illegal aliens on the terrorist watch list increased from 14 in FY17-FY20 to 392 over the last four years.
- The number of criminal aliens removed by ICE has also dramatically decreased.
These numbers continue to paint a grim picture of the mismanagement of America's borders by the Biden/Harris Administration.
House Homeland Security Committee
Updates in Senate
It's been no secret the U.S. House has far surpassed the Senate on the issue of immigration. Earlier this Congress the House passed HR2, which would have ended the Biden Administration's catch and release program and reinstated the "Remain in Mexico" policy. HR2 would also have completed the border wall and mandated E-Verify. Unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) refuses to bring this bill up for a vote or its Senate companion introduced by Senator Ted Cruz (TX).
Instead, the Senate and the Biden/Harris Administration continue to push the failed Lankford bill, which would have codified (required) up to 5,000 illegal border crossings a day. The Bill would have also codified many of the terrible current policies at the border and massively expanded visas.
Recently there have been a few positive bills introduced
Senator Lindsey Graham (SC) sponsored S. 5223, the Birthright Citizenship Act. The legislation ends the practice of granting citizenship to both the children of illegal immigrants and the children of non-immigrants in the U.S. on temporary visas. This bill limits birthright citizenship to citizens, legal permanent residents, and lawful aliens performing active service in the U.S. military.
This is similar to HR 6612, introduced in the House by Rep. Brian Babbin (TX-32).
Senator Mitt Romney (UT) sponsored S. 4529 to require all employers to use E-Verify. According to Senator Romney "By requiring all employers to use E-Verify, our legislation would ensure that businesses only hire legal workers--eliminating a key driver of illegal immigration and protecting jobs for hardworking Americans."
This legislation is bipartisan as co-sponsors include Joe Manchin (WV), Cotton (AR), Cassidy (LA), Lankford (OK) and Vance (OH).
E-Verify is a free and simple Web-based system that verifies the employment eligibility of newly hired employees.
See for yourself: E-Verify Self Check. Anyone can see if their records are up to date.
Senator Grassley has also introduced E-Verify legislation S. 156.
