Hi John -

As we approach Election Day, I wanted to personally check in to discuss a
crucial issue that should be at the forefront of our minds as voters in
our fight for climate and economic justice: utility affordability.

Many people are feeling the heat from high energy bills. In some cases,
families and vulnerable communities must choose between paying their
home’s utility bills and putting food on the table. But it doesn’t have to
be this way, John. Everyone deserves access to clean, justly
sourced, and affordable energy.

Who we elect as president can make a massive difference in our fight for
utility justice. The office of the president is a “bully pulpit.” And a
president who is tuned into the people’s needs can use their position to
demand that greedy utility companies allow a just transition to renewable
energy to lower utility bills for working families and to help save our
planet.

It’s frustrating to hear Donald Trump weaponize affordability language
when his policies would make affordability problems even worse. For
instance, he’s threatened to get rid of the Inflation Reduction Act, even
though many of the IRA’s incentives work to modernize the national grid to
convert it to renewable energy. Taking away the IRA would make it more
difficult — and more expensive — for Americans to repower their lives with
renewable energy.

Vice President Kamala Harris, on the other hand, has a strong record on
climate. She could use the influence of the presidential office to push
utility companies to lower their rates and move toward renewable energy —
better for both people and the planet.

We’ve endorsed VP Kamala Harris because we know that, with her in office,
we can move her to take real strides toward utility justice.

Our utility justice campaign has been hard at work fighting greedy utility
companies, pushing for more renewable energy, and limiting the influence
of the fossil fuel industry. [ [link removed] ]You can read more about why we believe VP
Kamala Harris can put our country on the right path toward utility justice
in our full blog here.

Thank you for fighting with us to protect our planet.

Together,

Candice Fortin - 350 Action
