We take it back: the kids actually are alright!
Lots of ink has been spilled, or at least keys have been clicked, this year about how young voters are going to turn out on November 5. Will there be an anti-Dobbs-motivated youth turnout surge? Will we see young men shift to the right? Will Kamala Harris need the critical Mr. Beast endorsement to secure her win?
We set out to answer all of your pressing questions about young voters (but just don’t ask us why they all seem to be getting that haircut).
In our new survey, we find Harris leading young voters by a +19-point margin over Trump. They see her as more composed, intelligent, and caring than Trump (well, yes!), and a plurality say the Republican Party does not care about people like them.
When asked which ideology best describes them, young voters most frequently choose “pro-choice,” and we find that abortion is the second most important issue (behind the economy) for young, female voters.
And while young men are more divided on Harris vs. Trump, we find that a strong majority of young people, including young men, support progressive policies like a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and many elements of Harris’ agenda.
Whoever decided that Election Day should always come after Halloweekend really had it out for young voters. But we promise that no hangover is worth staying home when our democracy is on the line!

Here are some other highlights from DFP this week:
Transphobia-phobia…
While Harris is out here closing the trust gap on economic issues and convincing voters that Trump supports national abortion bans, Trump and the Republicans are spending millions of dollars on TV ads attacking trans people. Ugh, give it a rest!
According to our new polling, the overwhelming majority of voters agree: 80% say that “both Democrats and Republicans should spend less time talking about transgender issues and more time talking about voters' priority issues like the economy and inflation.”
And when we asked specifically about the deluge of anti-trans ads, a majority of voters agree that these ads have gotten “mean-spirited and out of hand.”
Our data also continues to confirm that most voters would rather vote for a candidate who supports transgender rights than a candidate who does not support transgender rights.
Of course, Republicans want to distract you with transphobia so you’re not thinking about their creepy plans for our reproductive rights or their sheer passion for giving tax breaks to the rich. Leave Trans People Alone 2024!

No Halloween costume is scarier than a second Trump term
If Trump really is joking about many of his most outrageous statements, he’s got to be the worst stand-up comic of all time. Yes, even worse than your coworker’s improv sketch troupe.
The former president can be crowned the world’s worst comedian and still push his “jokes” out to people, which is a scary thought because he has the power to make those “jokes” become a reality.
According to our new polling, many voters aren’t taking Trump’s comments seriously or literally. Large percentages of voters do not think Trump is being serious at all when making various statements, like when he said that he would be a “dictator on day one” or that immigrants are eating dogs and cats.
For all nine tested statements, 50% or less of Independent voters think Trump was being serious at all. Look, if Trump wins, it’ll basically be the end of humor for at least the next four years. Do we really want to relive Kate McKinnon on the SNL stage singing Hallelujah? Do you want to deal with another four years of Sarah Cooper lip-synch videos? We didn’t think so.
Don’t get us wrong, we love political humor, but Trump’s bit stopped being funny long ago.
