In observance of the 66th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education U.S. Supreme Court ruling, which struck down racial segregation in public schools, the Center for American Progress will be discussing the history of the federal government’s role in providing equal access to high-quality education to all students. This timely event brings together a panel of experts and scholars in the field of education policy and law to discuss their experiences and understanding of the current state of equal educational opportunity in America. An interactive online Q&A session will provide opportunities to ask questions on what is next in ensuring educational equity for all students. This event is part of an online series exploring the five key issue areas that a new public education agenda should include. Each week, experts from across the education field will discuss how educators are adjusting to virtual schooling, the history of the federal government’s role in providing equal access to high-quality and equitable education to all students, preparing students for the future of work, what charter policy could look like in the future that puts equity at the forefront, and the need for greater and more targeted federal investment in education..
