Greetings!

I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives.

This Week in Washington, D.C.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Cosponsors the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023

H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, would repeal provisions that reduce Social Security Benefits for individuals who receive other benefits, such as a state or local government pension.

Specifically, this legislation would eliminate the Government Pension Offset (GPO), which, in some instances, reduces Social Security survivors' benefits for spouses, widows, and widowers who also receive government pensions. This legislation would also eliminate the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), which was designed by Congress in 1983 to calculate benefits for workers with both Social Security-covered earnings and earnings not subject to Social Security taxes.

I am a proud cosponsor of the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, which has broad bipartisan support.

Our nation's public servants, including teachers, firefighters, and police officers, should not be unjustly penalized by GPO and WEP.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Cosponsors the Farmer Assistance and Revenue Mitigation Act of 2024

The Farmer Assistance and Revenue Mitigation Act of 2024 (FARM Act) would provide assistance to farmers when their revenue falls below the cost of production due to circumstances beyond their control.

While Congress continues to debate the Farm Bill, the FARM Act would provide immediate relief to our nation's hardworking farmers who have been plagued by issues out of their control, including skyrocketing inflation due to the Biden-Harris Administration's policies and natural disasters such as drought and hurricanes.

I am a proud cosponsor of this legislation. May God bless our nation's farmers!
