Hi John,

I wanted to make sure you saw the email we sent yesterday about our grant recipient in Boise, Idaho. These kids are doing INCREDIBLE THINGS in spite of laws that make it nearly impossible to uplift and empower LGBTQ+ students. Read more, and if you're inspired, join our efforts [[link removed]] to support kids like this.

Since 2023, Idaho has passed harmful laws targeting LGBTQ+ students who are simply trying to be themselves. They restrict access to gender-affirming healthcare, ban LGBTQ+ content in schools, and even allow teachers to refuse students’ preferred pronouns and names.

But despite these relentless attacks, LGBTQ+ students and supportive teachers in Idaho are fighting back—and It Gets Better is right there with them.

This year, It Gets Better awarded TWO student-led school grants in Idaho as part of our 2024-2025 50 States. 50 Grants. 5000 Voices season. One of those grants went to Boise High School, where students are leading the fight by turning a portion of their library into an LGBTQ+ safe space. Complete with inclusive literature, art materials, and guest speakers, the space will be open to students throughout the school day, offering a refuge of support and connection.

John, take action early and support LGBTQ+ students like those at Boise High. Give today and become an inaugural donor — creating safe, inclusive spaces for queer youth nationwide. [[link removed]]

“It is absolutely critical in this time of ‘disconnectedness’ that we provide opportunities and a place for students, particularly members of the LGBTQIA+ community, to feel safe, seen, respected, and loved,” Boise High School librarian Natasha Rush shared with us. “Libraries are the place to do just that—it’s the definition of what we are at our core.”

While Idaho’s political climate may seek to marginalize LGBTQ+ youth, students and their allies are stepping up with creativity and resilience. They’re building safe, affirming spaces where everyone can thrive—and this grant is helping to make that possible.

“Letting our students know that Boise High values ALL students, regardless of their gender or identity,” is critical, as BHS Faculty Advisor Melissa Thompson shared with Boise Weekly [[link removed]].

Since 2021, It Gets Better has awarded more than $1.3 million to projects that empower LGBTQ+ students in over 120 schools across the country. Now, you can help us do it again in 2025. Get in on the action early [[link removed]] and become a supporter of 50 States. 50 Grants. 5000 Voices today.
