Email from Rep. Van Duyne I'm working to keep North Texans safe... Irving, TX - On Monday, I hosted a roundtable with local moms and law enforcement officers from Dallas and Park Cities Police Departments. We discussed concerning incidents in communities across Texas-24 and strategies to keep our families safe. After, I met local business leaders with the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce. We discussed the challenges they’re facing and my work to create a pro-growth tax code that will uplift our families and job creators. Later that day, I joined my colleague from the other side of the aisle, Congressman Marc Veasey, and Buckner International for a roundtable with local non-profits. We discussed strategies to empower families and individuals in our community, particularly as they advance from job training to gaining employment. On Tuesday, I joined my colleagues in pushing back on DHS' new policy to prevent the deportation of illegal Lebanese nationals. This comes on the heels of a foiled Election Day terror attack plotted by an Afghan national. You can read more about this in my Work of the Week section or by clicking here. Wednesday morning I met with Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD Superintendent, Dr. Joe Harrington. We discussed how the school year is going and how the district is working to deliver an outstanding educational experience. I was honored to present Shreeya Gedda, a Coppell resident, with the Congressional Silver Medal at our district office for dedicating herself to more than 200 hours of community service in North Texas. I also met with Jonathan Robinson, a Recording Academy member, music creator, and resident of Texas-24, for Grammy Music Advocacy Day to discuss issues facing music creators and how Congress can help better protect individuals' rights to their art. I recently met with executives from the Higher Education Servicing Corporation, a Texas-based nonprofit that helps students achieve their higher education goals through low-cost loans, to discuss issues they’ve experienced with the Department of Education, including student loan consolidation, as well as the challenges imposed by high interest rates. I’m continuing to work to make higher education more affordable and accessible. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I joined Representative Babin in holding DHS Secretary Mayorkas accountable for his dangerous decision to make it harder to deport Lebanese nationals in our country illegally. I will always stand up for our national security! Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, Gabriel Griess of Grapevine. After decades of service in uniform, Gabriel continues to find new ways to serve North Texans, including through Excel Medical Staffing.
