We are less than 2 weeks away from this year’s momentous election. Your vote will be critical to ensure we are building a New York that works for all of us who call the state home.

If you are eligible to vote, be sure you are registered to vote ([link removed]) and have a voting plan. Early voting begins October 26, but early voting locations may differ from the usual location on Election Day. To find your early voting location, check here ([link removed]) .

Despite the presidential election garnering the most attention, your ballot will also provide the opportunity to vote for other crucial branches of government and issues, including U.S. Congress, NY State Congress, and various ballot measures (on the back of your ballot).

The Equal Rights Amendment, commonly referred to as Prop 1, is one of the ballot questions you will get to vote on. This amendment will add anti-discrimination provisions to the State Constitution, covering ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and more. Additionally, it will codify reproductive rights in New York. Voting ‘Yes’ on Prop 1 supports democracy in our state.

Not all ballot proposals uphold democratic principles. For voters in New York City, Proposals two, three, four, five and six attempt to expand the Mayor’s power at the expense of everyday New Yorkers. Voting ‘No’ on Prop 2-6 ensures the checks and balances on Mayoral power currently in our New York City Charter, which is our city’s constitution, stays in place.

We have a chance to safeguard democracy in both our state and across the nation. As the presidential race enters its final weeks, white supremacists have intensified their vicious anti-immigrant rhetoric, rallying behind a mass deportation agenda that threatens the very fabric of our communities.

By casting your ballot, you’ll play an essential role in advancing immigrant rights throughout the state, creating a New York that is fair and inclusive for all.
