Welcome to the last newsletter of October!

Once again I've been hard at work in my role as Public Health Minister. On Monday I joined the Prime Minister and Health Secretary in launching the largest ever public consultation on the future of the NHS, as we get on with the task of rebuilding it.

Back home in Gorton and Denton I'm delighted to announce the return of the ever-popular Local Business Awards, which you can find out more about below.
HIGHLIGHTS
Local Business Awards 2024

I’m delighted to be launching this years Gorton and Denton Local Business Awards. Every year I take nominations from across the constituency for people’s favourite local businesses.

Last year we had over 9,000 nominations for over 200 businesses, and I'm confident this year could be even bigger.

Tameside Together Event

It was a pleasure to speak at the Tameside Together event, alongside the Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner, Lord Wajid Khan, members of the community, representatives from local organisations, Greater Manchester Police, and the new leaders of Tameside Council.

Following the horrific violence seen earlier this year, it was an important moment for communities from across Tameside to gather, discuss, learn and celebrate one another.

The Labour Government remain committed to building a stronger, more connected community, through collaboration and compassion, as we are here in Gorton and Denton.
Launch of the consultation on the NHS 10 Year Plan

On Monday I joined the Prime Minister, Health Secretary and other Ministerial Colleagues to launch the consultation on the NHS 10 Year Plan.

The consultation will be the largest national conversation on the future of the NHS since it was founded in 1948, and we want to hear from experts, NHS staff and members of the public to help shape the 10 Year Health Plan.

London Science Museum Health Event

It was great to meet organisations, charities and other representatives at an event at London Science Museum.

Earlier in the week we launched our consultation to shape the 10 Year NHS Plan, it was fantastic to discuss these plans and to hear so many brilliant ideas from across the sector.
Walking and Cycling Association Roundtable

It was my pleasure to host the Walking and Cycling Association Roundtable.

Joined by colleagues and representatives from active travel groups from across the UK, we discussed how active travel forms a key part of healthy living, and how we can integrate more active travel into our daily lives.
