Dear Maine Employer,

      As you likely have heard, Maine is in the process of implementing its Paid Family and Medical Leave Program! Beginning in 2026, eligible workers in the private and public sector will have up to 12 weeks of paid time off available to them for family or medical reasons including illness, to care for a relative, or for the birth of a child.

Although benefits will not go live until May 1, 2026, contributions will begin in 2025 to allow time to accumulate sufficient funds to pay for benefits and other administrative costs to operate the program.
