My name is Mondaire Jones and I’m a progressive running for Congress in
one of the areas hardest hit by COVID-19 -- New York’s 17th Congressional
District just north of New York City.

Thanks to the Trump administration’s botched response to coronavirus, our
country is experiencing poverty on a scale we have not seen in 100 years.
More than 30 million people have lost their jobs since March, and poverty
is set to skyrocket.

But instead of responding to this crisis by strengthening the safety net,
the Trump administration is threatening to pull the rug out from under
people already teetering on the edge of poverty. One recent Trump proposal
alone would deny assistance to 1.6 million people who need it -- and
that’s just one.

Some of my opponents can donate millions to their own campaigns. Some are
taking money from corporate PACs and fossil-fuel lobbyists. I’m not doing
any of that. My campaign is fueled by small-dollar, grassroots
contributions from people like you.

If elected to Congress, I’ll be sure to always put the people first.

[ [link removed] ]Today, can you donate $3 to help me win my primary so together, we can
fight against poverty and for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, student
debt forgiveness, and tuition-free public college in Congress?

The primary is just over a month away, and I'm running for an open seat in
a strongly Democratic district. That means whoever wins the primary is
highly favored to win the general.

I’m proud to be endorsed by the Progressive Campaign Change Committee,
Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, Elizabeth Warren, Ayanna Pressley,
and the Working Families Party.

While Congress and the Federal Reserve have shoveled trillions of dollars
at Wall Street banks and big corporations, the one-time $1,200 “stimulus”
checks for everyday people don’t come close to what millions of families
across the country need to stave off poverty and destitution right now. We
must do much more.

I know what it’s like to struggle, and I know how much assistance is
needed and how much it can change people’s lives. I grew up in my district
in Rockland County, raised by a single mom who worked multiple jobs but
still needed food stamps and section 8 housing to provide for us. With the
help of a quality public school education, I was able to make it to
Stanford University, work in the Obama administration, and graduate
Harvard Law School. Most recently, I was an attorney in the Westchester
Law Department, litigating (and winning) the county’s biggest cases.

If you agree that we should be working urgently to keep millions of
families out of poverty instead of pulling the rug out from under people
already on the edge -- like Trump and Republicans are bent on doing -- I
need your support.
