My mom wouldn’t be alive today if she hadn’t received the medical care she desperately needed. Today, she serves as an example of what’s possible when people struggling with a substance use disorder have access to the medical care they need to recover and rebuild their lives.
That’s why I proudly introduced the Recovery Act in the House of Representatives earlier this year.
“Rep. Brittany Pettersen’s bill incentivizes states to cover drug treatment ” - The Denver Post
For 10 years, I brought my experience fighting to save my mom’s life in a broken behavioral health system to the Colorado State Legislature — working with Democrats and Republicans alike to ensure others who are struggling with a substance use disorder or a mental health issue have access to the treatment they need in Colorado.
Now that I’m serving in Congress, I’ve taken this fight to the national level.
Every day, people are losing their lives to the scourge of opioid addiction, and in recent years, fentanyl has made the crisis even more deadly.
My bill will expand access to substance use disorder treatment by increasing federal funds for states who opt into Medicaid coverage for substance use disorders.
By simply compensating addiction care and delivering more sustainable resources to these states, we can transform our system to save thousands of lives and also save billions of dollars.
This is just the latest bill I’ve introduced to tackle the opioid crisis head-on. Whether it’s expanding access to naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose, or combating the import and distribution of fentanyl, I’ll never stop working to keep Americans safe from the threat of opioids.
If this is the kind of dedicated leadership you want to see from our leaders in government, then I’m asking for your support with Election Day just 11 days away. More than ever before, we need to elect leaders who will prioritize real solutions for the American people over petty partisanship.
