Getting Back to Work

What to Know: The Trump administration is now pivoting to reopening the nation’s economy.

The TPPF Take: It’s time to let Americans get back to work. And we have a plan—the Workplace Recovery Act—that can help ensure businesses can resume operations.

“America’s health crisis has become a major economic crisis,” says TPPF’s Rod Bordelon. “Without prompt action, the United States is likely headed for a prolonged recession. Our Workplace Recovery Act ensures that conservative principles are made central to resolving the crisis.”

Jail Fever

What to Know: Thousands of jail and prison inmates have been infected with the coronavirus.

The TPPF Take: As we confront COVID-19, state and local leaders must recognize the health of our fellow Texans behind bars, both those incarcerated and staff, is intertwined with the health of our communities.

“Fortunately, there are solutions that can minimize the potential for loss of life inside our correctional institutions and help ensure they don’t become an incubator for community spread,” says TPPF’s Marc Levin. “Texas leaders can be confident that taking data-driven steps to address COVID-19 behind bars can benefit both public health and safety.”

A Win in Court

What to Know: The Third Court of Appeals has again sided with TPPF against the city of Austin’s unconstitutional short-term rental ordinance.

The TPPF Take: The Court’s action simply reaffirms an earlier ruling, which struck down Austin’s attempt to ban short-term rentals like Airbnb.

“The Court of Appeals’ decision confirms that individuals do not surrender fundamental constitutional rights simply by renting a home for less than thirty days,” says TPPF’s Chance Weldon. “That’s not only a victory for our clients, but for renters and property owners across the state.”
