Hey John,
Ahmaud Arbery should be alive today. Unfortunately, he’s not, because he was hunted down and killed.
On February 23, just three days before the eighth anniversary of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin’s murder [[link removed]] , Arbery was jogging in broad daylight when he passed the home of Gregory McMichael, a white former police officer.
The two men exited the truck and Travis shot Arbery twice, killing the 25-year-old.
Rather than wave and say hello, or simply mind their own business , McMichael and his 34-year-old son Travis, grabbed a shotgun and a handgun and chased Arbery down in their truck.
There is no dispute that the McMichaels followed Arbery. There is no dispute that Travis McMichael shot and killed Arbery.
Yet, for more than two months, neither man was arrested nor charged with a crime, despite local authorities having cell phone video of the shooting. [[link removed]]
Finally, last Thursday night, after the investigation was transferred to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and after video of the shooting went viral [[link removed]] , the McMichaels were arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
TAKE ACTION [[link removed]]
Their arrests are a significant step forward, but justice has not yet been served.
It took the release of cell phone video and major public pressure for the case to meaningfully move forward [[link removed]] . While this is outrageous, we must maintain that same public pressure to push local and state authorities to take further steps towards justice.
Email District Attorney Tom Durden TODAY to demand that he and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation:
*
Thoroughly
investigate
all
parties
who
were
involved
in
the

Arbery.
*

those
responsible
for

death.
