We wanted to reach out today to tell you about an incredible candidate running in a state you might not be prioritizing (but should be!) this election season: Carol Blood for Congressional District 1 in Nebraska.

Representative Blood is extraordinary. While running her own major campaign for U.S. Congress, AND serving in Nebraska’s State Legislature, she’s also a campaign manager for a state legislative race.
What we love most about Rep. Blood is that she has single-handedly built a pipeline of women leaders in Nebraska. She has demonstrated a propensity for holding the door open for women leaders coming up behind her, and, for this reason, we are thrilled to stand beside her this cycle.

Carol’s opponent, Mike Flood, supports a complete and total ban on abortion. During his first stint in the Nebraska Legislature, he introduced and successfully passed the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” the nation's first 20-week abortion ban – in 2010.

Carol, on the other hand, is committed to defending accessible reproductive healthcare. She believes that safe and accessible reproductive healthcare is a basic right that is supported by science, medicine, and respect for human dignity.

Her commitment to serving the people of her home state is evident from her resume. She served for eight years on City Council and is currently serving her second term in the Nebraska State Legislature. It’s worth mentioning that Carol won those seats by running incredible campaigns and outworking her opponents. Now, she is looking to continue serving the people of her state by representing them in Congress.

Here’s the thing: due to redistricting, this district has become more purple, and there is low Republican enthusiasm. Now is our chance to flip this district blue and secure one more pro-choice Democrat in Congress.
