Dear Democracy Defender:

We have just returned from The Union’s Weekend of Action in Arizona and are more pumped than ever to hear the words “Madame President.”  Luis Esteva Sueiro and our two Arizona leads Carolyn Zeiher and Gayl Howell planned a busy weekend of canvassing and camaraderie for our volunteers! We started out with a Friday evening Meet & Greet with former Presidential candidate and Rep. Joe Walsh (R. Ill.) and his wife Helene Miller Walsh.

And then we worked our way through Tempe, Chandler, Phoenix and Tucson canvassing for pro-democracy candidates. We had great send-offs – on Saturday with Brandy Reese and Nicholas Gonzales (both running for the Arizona State House) and on Sunday with Kirsten Engel (running for U.S. Congress) and with current U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman (CA2) to give us a boost!

Arizona is a purple state – with pockets of Republicans, pockets of Democrats and tons of Independent voters. We spoke to ALL of them!  We ran into families who will most likely split their votes and even a whole family who were intentionally listed as Rs, but said they were really Ds. We suspect there will be a number of “secret” or “camouflaged” votes in Arizona.  There were also two full sides of a ballot of propositions that the MAGA state legislature is using in lieu of extremist legislation that would likely be vetoed by Gov. Hobbs.

The independent spirit of John McCain remains strong and was with us everywhere – at the airport, and on route to our next canvassing destination. Of course, we did see the “infamous” Trump limo in Scottsdale too, so there’s that (no photo on purpose!).

Days are slipping by. Roughly 20M ballots have been cast, but we need to urge millions more voters to cast their ballots by the deadline on Nov 5th. We can all do something to make a difference. After all,
