Dear John,
This morning before the Colorado Supreme Court, we presented our arguments on behalf of the five elephants held captive at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs.
We could not be more proud of our team, especially the attorney on this case, Jake Davis, who argued with rigor, passion, and poise for Jambo, LouLou, Lucky, Kimba, and Missy’s right to liberty as autonomous, self-determining individuals.
Simply by having this hearing, we have already made history in the fight for elephant rights in Colorado and beyond. As our Executive Director, Christopher Berry, said in his reflections on the hearing:
“No matter the outcome today, we’re going to I think look back on this as a brilliant milestone moment in the animal rights movement and the animal protection cause broadly, and that’s because, today, the elephants had a voice. They had a representative.”
