ACLU seeks to block proof of citizenship requirement in Ohio

  • The ACLU asked a federal court today to block Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) from requiring naturalized citizens to show citizenship papers when voting at the polls. The advocacy group says that LaRose's action violates a 2006 court order.

  • “Requiring naturalized citizens to bring additional documentation to verify their eligibility to vote is not only burdensome and discriminatory, it’s unlawful,” Freda Levenson, legal director of the ACLU of Ohio, said.

The latest on Georgia election lawsuits

  • A Republican Fulton County election official — who refused to certify the results of this year's primary — appealed an Oct. 14 ruling that held that Georgia law requires local officials to certify elections.

  • A Georgia judge blocked Oconee County from processing any voter challenges filed before the election, protecting voters from having their registrations unlawfully canceled within the state's 45-day quiet period.
