Hi John.
Many Kansans have shared with me how they’re struggling with the cost of their health care and prescription drug prices. I understand that people need real relief.
That’s why I stood up to Big Pharma and helped pass the law that caps insulin prices at $35 a month for seniors. It also finally empowers Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices.
The law is continuing to be implemented, but people are already beginning to see real savings – including from Medicare’s new cap on insulin prices.
So today, I wanted to make sure that you knew that Medicare Open Enrollment is now underway. This is when seniors can change their Medicare plans if they want to, or sign up for coverage next year.
Click here to learn more about it at Medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
It was great to connect with Kansas seniors recently at Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation in Olathe. We discussed how seniors can benefit from the new prescription drug savings under Medicare.
According to the Regional Leadership Council, the new law is already helping 19,000 seniors on Medicare in the Kansas Third District save $7.8 million in their out-of-pocket costs on prescription drugs this year. And that’s just the beginning. Next year, 27,000 seniors will see more than $17.2 million in savings.

This is good progress, but I understand there’s more to do. So in case you’re interested in finding further savings, this year’s Medicare Open Enrollment period may be an opportunity.
According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, it’s common for Medicare health and drug plans to make various changes each year. Those changes can include everything from the plan’s cost to which pharmacies are covered in-network.
If you’re satisfied with your current plan, you don’t have to do anything. But if you or someone you know is unsatisfied, this year’s Medicare Open Enrollment may be a chance to find a new one.
Open enrollment lasts through December 7, so you can consider your options. Help is also available through the free Senior Health Insurance Counseling program through the state of Kansas, where seniors can talk with trained volunteers to get answers to their questions. You’re also always welcome to contact my office at any time for help, including for assistance with Medicare and Social Security.
There’s more work to do to lower the cost of health care – both for seniors and for all hardworking Kansans. As that work continues, you can always visit davids.house.gov/lowercosts to find resources to lower your health care costs and make your life more affordable.
It’s an honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives.
My warmest regards,
Sharice L. Davids Member of Congress
