Hi team — I just made a risky decision, and the DLGA suggested I reach out to share it directly. Let me explain:
Last week, I launched the final TV ad of my campaign to replace Mark Robinson and flip the NC Lieutenant Governor’s Office. And while we had enough resources to secure TV time in North Carolina’s two biggest markets, we ultimately fell short of the funding needed to confidently go on air in the rural communities of Eastern North Carolina.
I gave the green light to expand our ad buy into Eastern North Carolina anyway — even though we currently don’t have the money in our budget. Now, I’m counting on this team to close this budget gap so we can keep our ads and other programs running without serious cutbacks.
We’re facing an uphill battle to keep our ad on the air in key markets through Election Day, so please, split a donation between my campaign and the DLGA today to ensure as many NC voters as possible see our message.
Decisions like this are never easy. We need to balance our TV budget against a bunch of other important needs like supplies for volunteers, staff, events, and so much more, but here’s why I took a risk:
Every public poll shows me running neck-and-neck with my opponent — and Mark Robinson’s handpicked running mate — Hal Weatherman, in this race to become North Carolina’s next Lieutenant Governor. This election will come down to which team does a better job of reaching voters in the next week or two.
That’s why I ultimately made the decision to go all-in reaching voters in Eastern NC and other communities Democrats don’t always invest in. This ad is one of our best opportunities to reach millions of voters before Election Day and swing this toss-up race in our favor, and we have to take advantage of it.
Let me be clear: This was a tough call — but it’s one I felt we ultimately had to make to give ourselves the best possible chance of flipping the Lieutenant Governor’s office blue.
