John, it’s Yvette Valdés Smith and I’m running to FLIP the last Republican-held State Senate seat in New York’s Hudson Valley.

I’m a mother to two young boys, a former public school teacher, Minority Leader of the Dutchess County Legislature, and a proud Vote Mama-endorsed candidate. My kids are everything to me, and securing a brighter future for them is a huge reason why I’m running.

I’m a pro-choice mom running to oust a State Senator who doesn’t prioritize moms and families when he votes in Albany. From voting against the Equal Rights Amendment and policies proven to prevent gun violence to failing to act on protecting children from lead poisoning, we need better leadership.

I believe being a mom makes me a better legislator because it gives me a perspective that’s too often missing in our government and the fuel to fight for our future.
