Pheasant opener is Saturday, Oct. 26

A pheasant taking flight

The 2024 pheasant season opener is this Saturday, Oct. 26 — and this season is looking to be an exciting one. With field reports and surveys showing that pheasant counts are up 19% since last year, hunters can be optimistic about hunting opportunities this fall.

Find a place to hunt with the Public Access Atlas [ [link removed] ], which displays over 1.2 million acres of publicly accessible lands. Another good resource is the Stubble Access Guide [ [link removed] ], showing public areas where wheat and milo stubble has been left tall following harvest, making great pheasant habitat.

Also, take note that conditions are extremely dry right now, so while you're out in the field, do your part to prevent wildfires [ [link removed] ].

As conditions can rapidly change, campground and WMA visitors should stay tuned to local fire ban updates and call ahead to state parks for current information. Find park contact details at our website [ [link removed] ].
