Hi John, it’s the IA Senate Dems. Before we ask you to contribute $24 to IA Senate Dems to protect districts in the Election, we wanted to shed some light on the current state of Iowa’s economy.
In recent years, far-right lawmakers have passed significant tax cuts, including reducing the tax rate for top earners by nearly 2%. While the wealthy benefit, everyday Iowans are left wondering why they aren’t seeing the same advantages.
Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds stated that the tax cut was necessary because “the government has been taking in too much taxpayer money.”
But how is it fair that Iowa’s ultra-rich are now paying the same tax rate as working Iowans?
And if that’s really the case, why are our K-12 public schools chronically underfunded?
This was the latest shtick in a pattern that’s emerged since 2018 where our Republican-controlled legislature chooses to ally themselves with the wealthy and leave working Iowans to foot the bill—and the consequences are already visible, John,
Due to this tax cut for the rich, Iowa’s revenue is expected to fall by $517 million this year. Next year, by $580 million.
Far-right lawmakers will continue to prioritize the corrupt private school voucher system and corporate tax giveaways over our students unless we band together to retake the Senate Majority, John.
Let’s work together to give Iowans a better deal, John. Will you chp in $24 to help us stay on track to retake the Senate Majority by 2030?
