News from Congressman Bill Foster

Dear Friend,

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about Project 2025: a set of plans developed largely by former members of the Trump Administration. It would gut essential services that millions of families rely on, including Social Security and Medicare, education, health care, and reproductive rights.

I wanted to share some examples of how Project 2025 would impact our neighbors in the 11th District.

Reproductive Freedom:

Project 2025 continues the Trump Administration's attacks on reproductive rights and would jeopardize access to emergency contraceptive care for over 1,850,000 women in Illinois.1 The plan would criminalize the shipping and transportation of abortion medication, and it would establish a nationwide surveillance system to force states to report the personal health details of all patients receiving abortion care.

Seniors:

Project 2025 would end Medicare and Social Security as we know it. The plan would raise the retirement age and cut hard-earned Social Security benefits for Illinois seniors. An independent study by the right-leaning Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget indicated that Trump’s programs would cut benefits by 33 percent2 and leave the system bankrupt within six years.3 Project 2025 would also raise the cost of life-saving prescription drugs for as many as 109,000 Medicare recipients in the 11th District.4

Taxes:

Project 2025 would give large new tax cuts to the richest Americans and the largest corporations, while raising taxes for middle class Americans and working families. Under this plan, a typical family of four in Illinois would see an increase of over $3,000 in taxes per year.5

Nutrition Assistance:

Project 2025 would slash funding for food assistance programs that help struggling families put food on the table, including 43,000 people in the 11th District who rely on SNAP to afford nutritious meals.6

Education:

Project 2025 would make devastating cuts to public education funding in Illinois, putting over 6,900 teaching positions in our state at risk, weakening our schools, and taking resources away from our students.7

Simply put, Project 2025 is a bad deal for our community, and I will work in Congress to oppose these extreme policies. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office at the numbers listed below.

Sincerely,
