Dear
SPUC supporter,
Thank you to EVERYONE who has donated to our autumn fundraiser.
Our Autumn Appeal has so far raised an astonishing £17,412.05
Unfortunately we still need to raise another £42,588 to reach our goal, and to keep vital projects on track.
Our anti-life opponents have DEEP POCKETS connected to Big Business pushing abortion in Africa and the developing world. Organisations such as the World Health Organisation spend millions on promoting abortion across the world, while our very own NHS spends around £1 million per week on repeat abortions for those who use abortion as a form of contraception.
Will you donate today?

Here’s a reminder of what’s at stake:
. ASSISTED SUICIDE COULD BE LEGAL BY CHRISTMAS
. AS legislation would almost certainly lead to MORE suicides in the general population
A study looking at the connection between medically assisted suicide/euthanasia and self-induced suicides between 1990 and 2016 in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland found that:
- NO European country which practices euthanasia or assisted suicide has seen a reduction in overall suicide rates
- In the Netherlands the rates of non-assisted suicide have INCREASED since the law was changed.
|
|
. As well as the impending Leadbeater Bill people with non-terminal conditions such as Anorexia are under threat from MSP Liam McArthur’s Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill
The McArthur Bill (currently passed Stage 1) would allow those aged 16 or over, deemed to be ‘terminally ill’ and who have been resident in Scotland for at least twelve months, to seek assistance to kill themselves.
But ‘terminally ill’ is so broadly defined that the Bill would qualify people with conditions which are NOT terminal but rather:
“… an advanced and progressive disease, illness or condition from which they are unable to recover and that can reasonably be expected to cause their premature death”.
. Should a new AS law be passed we can expect it to EXPAND as has happened in many countries where assisted suicide legislation has been introduced leading to:
- New eligibility categories being added (such as mental health conditions)
- More people succumbing to pressure/guilt to kill themselves – in Canada, more than 4% of ALL deaths are assisted suicide/euthanasia deaths
- Doctors (and even nurses) being compelled to kill their patients or face severe penalties.

1. Initiatives that help get out the TRUTH— like last month’s visit to the UK of Alex Schadenberg warning about the disastrous MAiD law in his native Canada
Veteran anti-euthanasia campaigner Alex Schadenberg knows better than most how vulnerable Canadians have suffered under that country’s horrific Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) laws.
|
|
While in Britain Alex addressed SPUC conference delegates in London and Glasgow and spoke to healthcare professionals and journalists about Canada’s disastrous MAiD law
And then there is Dr Dominic Whitehouse, a senior palliative medicine consultant and Hospice doctor.
With his vast professional experience, Dominic understands better than most that the provision of widely available specialist PALLIATIVE CARE for dying patients would make our opponents’ calls for medically assisted killing in Britain redundant.
|
|
Dr Whitehouse addressing over 140 supporters in Manchester on Tuesday 22nd October
|
|
Dominic has been underlining this critical message at SPUC public meetings in Manchester, Newcastle and Reading in October as law change is debated at Westminster and Holyrood.
2. Support vulnerable people at risk from medically assisted suicide - the Patients First Network is a prime example.
|
|
A free service to help anyone who ends up in a hospital or nursing home to avoid euthanasia-by-neglect (withdrawal of food and fluid).
3. Ensuring politicians are hearing the voices of the unborn and the vulnerable
This includes SPUC’s political outreach work such as ensuring a pro-life presence at the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrats and Reform Party conferences this Autumn.

From the Netherlands and Canada, we know that once the assisted suicide genie has been released, putting it back into the bottle could prove to be a near-impossible task.
Let’s NOT let the Genie escape.
Assisted suicide could be legal by Christmas
Now is the time to act.
