John,
Over and over again for the last 10 days, Donald Trump has called me “the enemy within.” It’s a dangerous new escalation of the attacks he’s made on me ever since the time I first stood up to him as president.
He’s singling me out by name. Threatening to send the United States military after people like me, who have held him to account.
Since then, two sides have emerged — those Republicans who have left Trump’s cult of personality, and those who still live within it.
People like JD Vance, Mike Johnson, and other MAGA leaders have defended Trump’s statements. Even VA Governor Glenn Youngkin lacked the character to denounce such a dangerous gambit by the would-be dictator.
They are like many Republicans who have failed the test of courage to stand up to him over the last decade — even when he threatens the power of the United States military against its own citizens.
But there are many, including people like Donald Trump’s former military chiefs and defense secretaries, who said we should take his comments seriously, along with hundreds of officials from previous Republican administrations.
Or Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney, who served with me on the January 6 Select Committee and have put country over party to support the only pro-democracy candidate on the ballot, Kamala Harris.
John, I know where I stand. I know the serious threat Donald Trump poses to the rule of law, and I know that if we want our democracy to thrive, he must be defeated on November 5.
As Trump ramps up his attacks on me during the closing days of this election, I need your support more than ever before to stand up to his increasingly dangerous rhetoric. Because it’s not just an attack on me — it’s an attack on our entire democratic system of government, and we must not let it succeed. Please, chip in today.
