Like all strong democracies, the United States has processes that minimize potential for election fraud, as well as an independent judicial system to weigh evidence and adjudicate claims of irregularities.
But misleading narratives about fraud have continued ahead of the November elections, and former president Donald Trump has once again refused to commit to accepting the results or to condemn all forms of political violence. That has democracy watchers on edge about the risks surrounding the country's election process and the peaceful transfer of power.
