Dear John,
Tomorrow, October 24, 2024, marks a historic moment. The Colorado Supreme Court will hear our case—the first of its kind in the state—arguing for the right to liberty for five elephants held captive at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
As we’ll argue, Jambo, Kimba, LouLou, Lucky, and Missy are autonomous beings who need and want to live freely, and they’ve been stripped of all control over their lives. It’s unjust to force elephants to live this way. Our clients shouldn’t be deprived of justice simply because they aren’t human, and tomorrow Colorado’s highest court will have the opportunity to examine the injustice of how we view nonhuman animals and affirm the importance of respecting the autonomy of elephants.
Note: The hearing won’t be livestreamed as we initially were told, but it will be recorded and the recording will be available sometime after the hearing. We’ll share the link to the recording when the court makes it available!
Please consider lending your support as we enter this critical stage in the fight for the freedom of the CMZ elephants and the freedom of elephants everywhere. Here’s how you can help:
