Some 50 million rural Americans would benefit from the common sense solutions laid out in Kamala Harris' plan for rural America. Her plan calls for investments in healthcare, farming, jobs, and caregiving that would energize rural economies and support rural families.
Expanding high-quality health care: The Harris plan will add 10,000 new medical professionals in rural areas — providing desperately needed staff for hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies and reducing the number of ambulance deserts by half — while also expanding telemedicine so more folks are seeing doctors and nurses than ever before.
Supporting farmers and ranchers: Harris-Walz will give the next generation of farmers and ranchers the boost they need to be successful. By increasing access to credit, land, and markets, and investing in innovation and new streams of income for small farmers, young farmers will be able to make a good living off the land.
Lower housing costs: Construction on 3 million new homes, plus up to $25,000 in down-payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, will help lower housing costs across the country.
Invest in small business and entrepreneurship: Rural economies rely on small businesses and the entrepreneurs who are setting out to build the next great American company from their kitchen table or garage. To encourage American innovation, Harris-Walz are increasing the small business tax deduction for startup expenses ten-fold to $50,000.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reinvest in our rural communities. But it absolutely depends on giving it our all between now and November 5th.
