Dear Friend,
Donkeys are patient, kind, and intelligent and can recognize the faces of
animals they haven't seen in years. But at popular tourist destinations like the
Greek island of Santorini and the ancient city of Petra, Jordan, handlers routinely
whip and beat them and force them to haul around heavy tourists in the sweltering heat.

Donkeys can live for over 50 years, yet eyewitness footage from Chinese farms
shows donkeys— some as young as 5 months old —being hit on the head with a
sledgehammer before their throats are slit. Their skins are then boiled down
to make gelatin for ejiao, a traditional Chinese medicine.
