Partner Convening: Grassroots and Community Organizing

As part of our efforts to prepare for the outcome of the upcoming election, we recently convened grassroots and community organizing partner organizations. Partners offered their perspectives on potential election outcomes and sketched out strategies that align with their priorities and capacities. We thank the partners who shared their time, experience, and strategic thinking, and we will use their guidance to inform the development of PIF’s post-election strategy. And we especially thank the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights for hosting and the Foundation for Child Development for sponsoring the event.

Housing: State Policy Working Group Meeting Thursday

We moved our October meeting of the State Policy Working Group to Thursday, for a special presentation by Kate Walz of the National Housing Law Project and Christina Pope of Welcoming America. Kate and Christina will provide an overview of the federal and state policy landscape on housing eligibility for immigrants and their families and take questions from participating partners.

Health: October 30 ACA Enrollment Webinar

Our partners at UnidosUS are co-hosting a Spanish-language webinar on Affordable Care Act open enrollment, which begins in just a few days. On October 30 at 2pm ET, experts will share updates on plans and financial options available this year, strategies to engage with families, and new evidence-based strategies to overcoming public charge concerns.

Health: DACA Lawsuit Storybanking

New regulations make people with DACA eligible for health care under the ACA, but Republican attorneys general have sued to block the new policy. Our partners at Families USA are gathering personal stories to anchor a legal brief opposing that litigation and defending health care access. They are focused on:

  • The barriers DACA recipients face when trying to access health care
  • The challenges of living with chronic health conditions without coverage
  • Why consistent and reliable health care is vital for DACA recipients and their families

If you or someone you know can help, please share the link below with them and encourage them to share their story by Friday, October 25.

Voting: East Bay Sanctuary Covenant GOTV Toolkit

Our partners at East Bay Sanctuary Covenant have launched a get out the vote campaign aimed at encouraging immigrant families to get involved in November’s election. The campaign is anchored by a great video featuring four personal stories told by immigrants taking action in different ways. Use the toolkit below to help spread the word and encourage immigrant families to take charge of their own futures.

Advocacy: Support the Keeping Families Together Parole In Place Process

Our friends at American Families United are circulating two opportunities to support the Keeping Families Together Parole In Place Process. One is an opportunity for organizations to endorse the process. Another is an opportunity for members of Congress to engage, by signing on to a congressional support letter coordinated by Rep. Nanette Barragán (D-CA-44). Interested congressional offices can use the link below to sign on. Please note that the sign-on link will only work for congressional offices using Congress’ Quill application. Deadline for both is Tuesday, October 29.
