Dear friend,
As director of media and communications in Europe, I often bear witness to
the hardships facing our program participants.
Right now, migrants and displaced people around the world are bracing for
the winter ahead.
In Ukraine, for example, I’ve seen how the harsh winds, slippery roads and
trails, and frigid weather severely impact the safety and well-being of
families who are forced to flee their homes.
To make it through the cold months ahead, families in Ukraine need
suitable shelter to keep warm and access to cash to be able to afford
basic necessities and medical supplies.
When you give to Mercy Corps, your support goes up to 5X as far — every $1
you donate today is combined with an average of up to $4 in additional
funding, enabling us to provide even more relief for displaced and migrant
families. [ [link removed] ]Will you make a
first-time gift today and help
us continue to meet the most urgent needs in Ukraine and 40+ countries?

Here at Mercy Corps, alongside our partners, we are working to support
families in Ukraine. We are helping to supply shelter for displaced
families and emergency learning spaces for children, helping restore homes
that were damaged by the conflict, providing grants and training to
businesses, and distributing emergency cash, food, water, and sanitation
supplies.

[ [link removed] ]When conflict escalated in Ukraine, a bomb fell on Eduard’s (black
top) neighborhood and damaged his home. He also lost his main source
of income as the factory where he worked closed due to conflict. With
Mercy Corps’ cash assistance program, he was able to make repairs to
his home, purchase basic necessities, and continue pricing for his
family. Mercy Corps’ support meant that Eduard was able to have enough
food, clothing, warmth, and a safe place to call home ahead of the
winter months.

[ [link removed] ]Olena (blue top) was forced to flee her home with her kids due to
escalating conflict in her hometown. She found refuge at a Mercy
Corps-supported shelter in a neighboring city. The shelter has a fully
stocked kitchen, living area, and outdoor space for children to play.
Mercy Corps’ support provides families like Olena’s with shelter and
other support during the cold winter months.

[ [link removed] ]In western Ukraine, Mercy Corps partners run a childcare center
for displaced families in the country. The center provides free care,
food, clothing, and a warm, safe space for children to play and learn.
It also gives parents time to figure out the logistics of relocating
their families.
Right now, 3.7 million people are internally displaced within Ukraine, and
more than 6.1 million Ukrainian refugees are displaced across Europe. As
the winter months approach, we will continue to provide shelter, food, and
life-saving support for families affected by this ongoing war.
Together, we are delivering a warm, safe place for families who are forced
to flee their homes. [ [link removed] ]Please make a gift today to support these efforts
in Ukraine and our work in 40+ countries supporting civilians affected by
violent conflict and humanitarian crises.
Thank you,
Kyle DeGraw,
Director of Media and Communications for Europe
