Be like Cardboard Cory.

Indivisibles,

As an Indivisible, you’ve probably heard of Cardboard Cory -- he’s the more responsive, more accountable, more cardboard version of Senator Cory Gardner that Coloradans have relied on for the last four years.

And now we have some exciting news to share: Cardboard Cory is getting his own documentary and video series!

In the next few months, Indivisible and the Cardboard Cory team are going to work together to highlight all the reasons why Colorado needs a new senator. We'll be making investments to get these videos in front of as many Colorado voters as possible with the goal of plugging them into their local Indivisible groups on the ground so that they can roll up their sleeves and join the fight for the Senate.

Before we explain how we got here and what this has to do with you, allow us to brag a little: watch the Cardboard Cory teaser video by clicking here

If you want to know more about Cardboard Cory and the real Cory Gardner, scroll down to read about how we got here. If you want to help now, read below -- hint: we want you to become Cardboard Cory famous, too.

How you can help

Time after time, Cory Gardner has sided with Trump. Now it’s time for us to kick him -- and his right-wing buddies -- out of office in November. While a lot of that work has already started, we’re going to need your help to make it a reality.

Luckily, Cardboard Cory’s not the only one who can make a splash with a video. We have ten other Republican Senate targets in the Payback Project -- and we know Indivisibles are ready to take back the Senate in November. What happens in the senate impacts all of us, so here’s what you can do:

  • Plug into the Payback Project -- whether you live in a target state or you just want to help flip the Senate in November, we need your help. Click here to sign up
  • Make a video telling us why you’re all in to support the Payback Project and take back the Senate this year. Click here to record your video, then share it on social media.

How we got here (aka the story of Cardboard Cory)

Since 2017, Indivisible Front Range Resistance has been bringing Cardboard Cory to town halls and to meet with constituents -- all to highlight how very little time the real Gardner spends doing his job. In 2019, Indivisible activists took Cardboard Cory on a state-wide bus tour, receiving loads of press and recognition across the country.

So what has the actual Cory Gardner been up to? It’s hard to say.

After not taking the coronavirus seriously early-on, Gardner had to self-quarantine for two weeks out of concern that he may have contracted the virus. Gardner in self-quarantine is not that different from Gardner in the Senate: he's been avoiding large crowds (his constituents), getting lots of rest (literally not doing his job), and prioritizing the important things in life (voting with Trump 89.3% of the time).

Most recently, Gardner has been leveraging his close relationship with Trump to his political advantage as Trump doles out much-needed coronavirus medical supplies to loyal Republicans across the country.

You read that right: Trump and Gardner are using their close relationship to benefit each other during a global health crisis. This type of opportunism is precisely why we started the Payback Project a few months ago -- to hold the worst Senate Republicans accountable for their actions, their vote, and their enabling of Donald Trump. And to take back the Senate in 2020.

The work of the Payback Project doesn’t just impact those eleven Senate Republicans or their constituents -- it has implications for us all. Just like Trump, until we kick the real Cory Gardner out of office, he will continue to put his own political ambitions ahead of his constituents’ needs. He’ll continue to prioritize corporate profits over people’s lives and health. And he’ll continue to side with Trump, no matter the cost to our democracy.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team

As social distancing measures and public health concerns push more of our interactions online, much of our Payback Project work has pivoted towards digital tools and resources. We’re working directly with local groups to help them develop election organizing plans ahead of November, and we’re thinking about how tools like the Cardboard Cory videos can help engage voters and drive attention to key Senate races.

Whether you’re a constituent in one of the ten Payback states, or you’re deeply pissed about Republican Senators putting profits over people during a global crisis, we’re all impacted by the makeup of the Senate. If we’re going to win in November, we need your support. Click here to fund our Payback plans and all of our work.
