Hi John,

I'm so excited to tell you about our incredible progress in using AI to push biomedical research to new heights!

This month, our leaders discussed how we can use AI to help scientists explore novel therapies. We also celebrated the progress of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub New York, which aims to bioengineer immune cells for the early detection and treatment of diseases. We're delighted to highlight the incredible biomedical researchers leading the charge in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in their fields. Through these advancements, we can see the impact of this work in science, and I am thrilled to share them with you. Learn more below!

Sincerely,

At Stanford’s recent Big Ideas in Medicine conference, Michael Fischbach — the Liu (Liao) Family professor of bioengineering at Stanford University, an institute scholar of Stanford ChEM-H, and the director of the Stanford Microbiome Therapies Initiative — moderated a discussion with Priscilla Chan and Steve Quake in which they discussed how using AI for basic research could help scientists explore novel therapies.

Our Science Diversity Leadership Award recognizes the leadership of biomedical researchers who are promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in their scientific fields through outreach, mentoring and teaching. We are proud to support their efforts to ensure science benefits everyone.

Staying Close to the Work

A couple weeks ago, CZIers took our first fall Learning Trip to see the Community team’s work in housing. Starting in Oakland with our partners at Partnership for the Bay’s Future, participants visited two housing preservation projects, an important anti-displacement strategy to keep lower-income people and families housed. They ended their day in Castro Valley with CZI grantee Firm Foundation Community Housing, at a tiny home campus for people experiencing homelessness that is co-operated with health partners.
