Dear friend,
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone across New Hampshire! I know that on Mother’s
Day we usually celebrate with hugs and kisses and gather for large lunches to
spend time together. While this year may look different for many, we can still
express our love and appreciation for all the mothers out there through calls,
texts, and Zoom! Today, I’m thinking of my mom, Susan McLane, whose lessons of
compassion and the importance of community service seem more relevant than ever
during these uncertain times.
Across our state and nation, mothers have stepped up in countless ways as we
combat the COVID-19 pandemic in our communities. From serving on the frontlines
of our healthcare system and keeping our grocery stores running safely to
teaching students remotely and caring for children home from school, mothers
are making a huge difference. To all those who are working to keep our
communities safe during this time, thank you!

This week, I introduced legislation that would provide $25,000 in student debt
relief or in education benefits to our essential workers on the front lines of
the COVID-19 crisis and their families. Many of the individuals who continue to
work and serve in our communities never signed up to put their health and
wellbeing at risk but they are continuing to show up every day. We owe them a
tremendous debt of gratitude.
