John -- Brace yourselves: The Amazon rainforest is in grave peril.
Brussels media say the European Commission’s new fund aims to pacify France's resistance to the dangerous EU-Mercosur deal. Confirmed by four officials, it's a desperate move to push the trade deal through at the G20 summit in Rio, on November 18-19.
Swathes of Latin America's forests are at risk of being razed so beef production and exports could increase under a trade deal being negotiated between Europe and Mercosur countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay).

John,
Swathes of Amazon rainforest are at risk of being razed so beef production and exports could increase under a trade deal being negotiated between Europe and Mercosur countries. But it’s finally been called a “terrible deal” by French President Emmanuel Macron. It’s the strongest indication yet that we could halt this deal in its tracks.
You know it’s a bad trade deal when agri-giant Bayer-Monsanto is lobbying all countries involved to ratify it. In Brazil one person dies every two and a half days because of toxic pesticides. This deal gets rid of tariffs on pesticide exports from the EU to Mercosur countries which would allow sales to boom.
Macron could use France’s influence with the European Union and call on it to withdraw its negotiating mandate. The French President cares about his reputation as a decision maker on the global stage so let’s show him that people from all around the world are demanding he blocks the deal.

The deal is being negotiated between the European Union and the Mercosur bloc (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay). Farmers from all countries involved are united against the deal and say it's "tailor-made for financial capital and transnational corporations".
It would pave the way for corporations to push Indigenous communities off their land to make way for mines and monoculture crops.
When Macron was in Brazil recently he said “there is nothing that takes into consideration the subject of biodiversity and climate” in the deal. Let’s build on Macron’s words and call for the deal to be stopped.
President Macron: protect the future of our planet and stop this terrible trade deal.
Ekō members like you have come together before to push politicians to do the right thing. Like when 240,000 people from all around the world successfully called on European Members of Parliament to reject plans that would allow toxic pesticides to hurt bees. That was also against the entire lobbying might of Bayer’s agrochemical industry.
Let’s do it again and tell Macron to block the EU-Mercosur deal.
