Discover Bonegilla

Join us and celebrate the history of Bonegilla and its residents at Discover Bonegilla on Saturday, November 16.

The national heritage listed site is set to come alive with a curated program of cultural experiences, exploration opportunities and entertainment to celebrate its significant Australian history.

Delve into migrant history with a talk or discussion panel, join a guided tour of the last remaining Block 19 or stop by cultural and historical exhibits.

There will be something for the whole family to enjoy, with traditional games and activities for all ages, delicious food options and live music.

A back to Bonegilla gathering and discovery, Discover Boengilla is a great chance to get together with friends and family, with catch-up opportunities for ex-residents and staff.

Hear shared migrant stories and explore the last remaining camp buildings during a Bonegilla Migrant Experience guided tour or discover the fascinating collection of the Wodonga & District Historical Society during a tour of Hut 97.

Talks and discussions

Hear from Andra Putnis, author of Stories My Grandmothers Didn't Tell Me. Wodonga Family History Society will host a discussion on family history. Learn about volunteering at Bonegilla and later, how to add a story alongside a Bonegilla ID Card.

Cultural and history exhibitors

Delve into the past, stop by and speak with our exhibitors. Albury LibraryMuseum, Yarra Valley Italian Cultural Group and Jindera Pioneer Museum welcome you.

Games and activities for all ages

Reminiscent of favourite activities from the past, explore and discover hands-on fun. Play traditional board and lawn games, drop-in for a paper quilling session, make a kite or paper plane or go on a scavenger hunt, plus more!

Live music and entrainment

On our top lawn, catch Chloe Jade’s unique, soulful yet relaxed vibe then get into the swing of it with Rosy Red Cheeks with a rather smashing variety of hip tunes.

Food and drink

Pick up a delicious bite to eat. Rotary Club of West Wodonga will be serving kranskys, sausages, burgers including veggie options and soft drinks. Enjoy a hot coffee from Mouse Tails Expresso and finish with a cake or slice form our stall.

Post-war Migration Tour

To be held on the day prior to Discover Bonegilla, limited spaces are now available on this exclusive bus tour of significant sites across Albury Wodonga.

Enjoy a day immersed in post-war migrant history and experience the ways in which migrants shaped modern Australia.

Cost:

$89 per person, including morning tea, lunch and bus transport

Bus pick up options:

9.45am from Wodonga Senior Citizen Car Park or 10.05am from Albury Train Station

Optional drop off at both pick up locations between 4pm and 4.30pm.

Witness the size and scale of the original migrant camp at Bonegilla when it opened in 1947. Spend time at Latchford Barracks to view the last remaining building and footings on site, as well as past block locations that aren’t accessible to the general public.

Learn about the fascinating history of the Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre, explore original camp buildings and hear shared migrant stories during a guided tour.

Albury LibraryMuseum

Wander through Albury LibraryMuseum’s Bonegilla Collection to get a deeper understanding of Bonegilla’s past. The collection includes objects owned by former residents; things that people brought from their homeland that gave them comfort.
