A story about Bonnie, who was eight months pregnant with twins when her social worker asked for our help. I can remember when I was just about to become a mum. I knew my life was about to change overnight. It was daunting, but I couldn’t wait to meet my child. For Bonnie, there was little time for excitement. All she felt was sad and anxious. Everyday we hear from families who are placed under more and more pressure by the affordable housing shortage. Like me, I’m sure you find it hard to imagine having nowhere permanent to sleep. Let alone in the last month of pregnancy. It was such a lonely and distressing time for Bonnie. When her social worker spoke with us, Bonnie was only a few weeks away from giving birth. She didn’t have a support network, and didn’t own a single piece of clothing for her twins, or any of the basics like nappies. But most importantly, the twins didn’t have a safe place to sleep. Will you make a donation today that gives babies like Bonnie's a safe place to sleep? Her pregnancy is only half of Bonnie’s story. Life leading up to the twins had already been full of challenges. Bonnie is disabled after a serious horse riding accident when she was 12 that has left her with incomplete paraplegia. So she was terrified not only about how she would afford everything her twins needed, but how she would physically care for them. Bonnie would look at prams and cry because she knew she would never be able to buy the most basic model, let alone a double pram for her twins. In situations as desperate as this, we need to turn to you and ask for help. Because the day we stepped in to help Bonnie, was the day she started looking forward to becoming a mum. And that is the difference you can make today. We have 70 other families just like Bonnie’s on our waiting list in the Geelong region at the moment and they need our help urgently. Will you donate today so we can provide a family with a bundle full of all the essentials like a cot, pram, car seat, warm clothing and nappies? “If it wasn’t for you, I think I would have fallen apart”Bonnie told us that being given these items took away the stress during the last weeks of her pregnancy. With the community’s support, we gave her everything she needed for her twins - cots, clothes, blankets and toys, even toiletries for Mum - she thought it was so kind and made a huge difference at a very emotional time. But, most importantly, and because of the generosity of people like you, we were able to give Bonnie a double pram with a hand brake instead of a foot brake. She had been so worried about how she would use a pram with her disability. We know that a safe cot, car seat and pram are essential, but they are expensive items which are out of reach for vulnerable families and mums like Bonnie. Families in crisis are turning to us more than ever before. Last year it cost us just $126 per baby and child to give them every item they needed for a safe start to life. It’s only possible to provide our service at such an incredibly low cost because of our volunteer power and the generosity of people like you. The items we give families are absolutely critical:
We know that a baby can't have a safe start to life without these three items. And we can give them all of this and more for just $126 per child. Please donate now and help us continue to provide emergency support and #therealbabybundle to families in crisis. Please can you be one of the people who gives a baby a safe cot, pram, car seat and all the essential items they need by donating $126 today? Warmest regards, Julia Roache PS.
