Friend,
I know mothers are dealing with incredible challenges these days. I've seen it in my own home. Many of us are juggling work while acting as teachers, entertainers, and even counselors for our kids who can't go to school.
Black mothers take on an especially difficult burden. Women of color are paid less, have less access to jobs with childcare and health care, and are more likely to lose their children at birth or later in life.
It's also much more likely for Black mothers to be on the frontlines of this crisis – with Black workers 50 percent more likely to work in the health care and social assistance industry. That means, on top of working in the middle of a pandemic, Black mothers also have to worry about bringing home this virus to their families.
It's so important we continue to elect more Black leaders – especially Black women – who will fight for our communities. Even though we may not be able to gather with family or celebrate in our favorite restaurant, it's especially important to say thank you for all that mothers have done for us and continue to do each day.
To all the mothers reading, thank you, and happy Mother's Day. And from one mom to another – thank you for your strength and heart.
Take care, and stay safe,
Stefanie
