This has to stop.

John,

In my work representing parents in juvenile court, most of my clients are young, single mothers. They’re doing the best they can with what they have, and what they have usually isn’t much.

It ghasts my flabber that the wealthiest nation on earth doesn’t offer its mothers (or fathers) guaranteed paid leave to care for their newborn or adopted children.

Several months ago, one of my clients, a brand new mom, returned to work a week after giving birth. She’s a waitress and was back to work, standing on her feet for hours on end, just days after birthing a child. She had no choice. She has no paid leave and had to keep money coming in somehow.

We should be ashamed of the way our nation treats mothers. Paid time off work to focus on healing your body and adapting to life with an infant seems to be a luxury for those with the economic means to take time off work or those with jobs that offer paid leave.

That’s why I propose policies to support mothers, fathers and all parents. A universal single-payer healthcare system, paid family (maternity and/or paternity) leave, livable wages, and debt-free education, from pre-k through college would provide the foundation that all mothers and families deserve.

Will you pitch in today and help me fight for all mothers? ([link removed])

And let’s not forget our Mother Earth. It’s our duty to care for our planet and protect her for future generations. That’s why I’m fighting for a Green New Deal and to take aggressive, immediate action on the climate crisis.

I can’t do this without you. Can you donate today and help me take this fight for mothers of all kinds to Washington, D.C.? ([link removed])

Thank you for your continued support.
