Dear John,
Here at Immigrants Rising, we are committed to directly serving the undocumented community and advocating for a more equitable future for everyone. This year, advocacy at the legislative in California was integral to our work. We supported AB 2543 (Arambula), AB 2548 (Berman), AB 2165 (Reyes), AB 2586 (Alvarez), and AB 2903 (Santiago and Cervantes) — all geared towards increasing access to higher education and income-generating opportunities for undocumented immigrants in California.

- AB 2543 (Arambula) allows undocumented entrepreneurs to obtain small business certification, giving them access to more opportunities such as government contracts.
- AB 2548 (Berman) increases college affordability for student parents, from admissions to graduation.
- AB 2165 (Reyes) improves existing efforts to ensure high school students submit FAFSA or CADAA and pursue financial aid options for their higher education.
VETOED BY GOV. NEWSOM
- The Opportunity for All Act (AB 2586, Alvarez) would have allowed undocumented students in public California colleges and universities to pursue on-campus employment.
- AB 2093 (Santiago and Cervantes) would have opened doors for qualifying students to pursue an associate’s degree at California Community College campuses tuition-free.

While we have achieved tremendous success in breaking barriers for all Californians, especially those who are undocumented, it is clear that we have much work left to do. Immigrants Rising remains committed to advocating for policies that break down barriers for all Californians, particularly those from immigrant communities.
As we move forward, we will continue to work alongside our partners to push for transformative change and create a more inclusive future — one where everyone, regardless of their immigration status, has access to opportunities that allow them to thrive.
