Amid the pandemic, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is focused on anything BUT providing relief from the coronavirus. Just this past week he held hearings on confirming MORE of Trump’s extreme and unqualified judicial nominees and now this coming week, McConnell is hoping to ram through a reauthorization of the Patriot Act.
While McConnell has three amendments to give the Trump administration even more power to spy on Americans without a warrant, privacy advocates have three amendments of their own to STOP them.
With our civil liberties and our democracy hanging in the balance, your Senators need to hear from you, right now!
Congress was expected to vote on the Patriot Act back in March, before the nation was forced to adhere to stay-at-home orders in response to the coronavirus outbreak. But Trump and McConnell faced a huge roadblock: activists like you and many members of Congress. Thanks to the public outcry, McConnell failed to muster the votes needed to extend the Trump administration’s spying powers. But they’re determined to push it through now, while everyone is rightly focused on fighting the coronavirus.
There’s only one shot at this. Advocates in Congress are putting together three crucial reform amendments that would curb the administration’s abuse of power, but with so little time left before this important vote, your senators need to hear that you expect them to support the amendments that will stop the Trump administration from abusing his powers.
