John — with the race for the White House neck and neck, Pennsylvania’s role as a key swing state is front and center. But what many don’t realize is that state legislative races are just as crucial. These down-ballot races will determine if we move forward on climate action or let corporate polluters pull us back.
That’s why I’m spotlighting three incredible JanePAC-endorsed candidates running for the Pennsylvania State House. Megan Kocher, Anna Thomas, and Hadley Haas are running against pro-Oil and Gas Republican incumbents, and they need your help to flip their districts! Can I count on you to split a $30 contribution between my Climate Champions of the Week?
I know you’re busy, John, but here’s why this moment is so important.
✅ Pennsylvania is a make-or-break battleground state for climate action. PA is the second-largest gas producer and the third-largest coal producer in the country, so the decisions made here have a substantial impact on our nation’s carbon footprint. Corporate polluters are determined to flip the state House to give Republicans the power to expand fracking, accelerate coal production, and roll back clean energy initiatives.
All three of these seats are held by Republican incumbents, and with Democrats holding just a one-seat majority, the outcomes will decide control of the chamber.
✅ Turning out climate voters down ballot will also boost our chances at the top of the ticket. The voters who show up for these state-level elections could also be the voters deciding the presidential race. If we can boost turnout down ballot, we can help secure Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, giving us the best shot at defeating Donald Trump.
Meet My Climate Champions of the Week
🌍 Megan Kocher, HD-119: Megan is fighting in one of Pennsylvania’s closest races, where her district has been devastated by fracking and pollution. She’s committed to leading the clean energy transition, advocating for grants to help families install solar, and fighting back against the fossil fuel giants that are hell-bent on building a $6 billion gas plant in her community.
🌍 Anna Thomas, HD-137: Anna came within 700 votes of flipping her district in 2022, and this time, she’s more than ready to win. Her district has some of the worst air quality in the state, and she’s ready to hold corporations accountable, ban forever chemicals, and preserve open space to protect her community.
🌍 Hadley Haas, HD-44: Hadley is running to flip a critical seat in Allegheny County, where fracking, watershed erosion, and pollution threaten her community’s health. She fought against PennEnergy’s plans to take a million gallons from a local creek and is committed to protecting clean air, clean water, and green spaces. Hadley knows that protecting our environment is essential for the future of her district.
