Hey John,
With just about two weeks to go, I’m putting all my nervous energy into concrete ways to help our Democracy Defenders turn out enough votes to win their races.
If you, too, are looking for ways to quell any anxieties and make a real impact, John,I recommend making a donation to the NDRC to help these critically important state-level races. [[link removed]]
And, okay, yes, sometimes at night I scroll my phone, looking for every possible update on these must-win races. (I can’t be the only one.)
Last night, for example, I was reading the latest about the Arizona State Supreme Court. Two of seven seats are up for “retention,” as it’s called there. We’re supporting the effort to replace these two judges — they both recently voted to uphold a 19th-century abortion ban.
There’s also a ballot initiative in Arizona (Prop 137) that would end term limits for state supreme and appellate court judges — and it would be retroactive. If this ballot initiative passes, it would essentially cancel future elections for these seats and nullify the results of the two 2024 elections.
Honestly, I started spiraling a bit. The current environment that we’re dealing with in state supreme court races is not a partisan environment as much as it is a question of democracy vs. authoritarianism.
Tonight, instead of endlessly scrolling for updates, I’m going to re-energize by reading through our list of supporters who stepped up and pitched in with a donation. I hope I see your name, John.
We have to help protect the integrity of our state supreme courts. Can you chip in right now to help pro-democracy leaders win their races across the country? [[link removed]]

A recent headline from Democracy Docket read, “Abortion, Voting Rights, Gerrymandering: What’s at Stake in 2024 Supreme Court Races.” (This was another late-night read that did the opposite of calming my nerves.)
The article basically said that with state supreme courts playing a vital role in deciding cases about gerrymandering, there is almost nothing that’s not at stake in the 2024 state supreme court races.
I’m not going to sugarcoat this: These elections are extremely high stakes. But we are not helpless. You can take action right now to help elect Democracy Defenders all across the country. Will you please join me? [[link removed]]
Thank you so much,
Biz
