Hi ,
Welcome to Media Literacy Week. We’re excited to share how MediaWise is promoting a healthy democracy and rebuilding trust in journalism through media literacy empowerment. Poynter’s MediaWise is a global leader in ensuring news consumers, educators and teens have the skills to avoid misinformation and find the best sources to make fact-based decisions that shape their lives.
From Oct. 21–25, we’ll be participating in a series of impactful events and initiatives designed to equip anyone with digital media literacy skills to navigate the most complex information ecosystem in history.
Throughout the week, we’ll be:
• Launching a major partnership with YouTube ([link removed]) to expand our media literacy curriculum, making these resources more accessible to people worldwide.
• Participating in key events, such as the U.S. Media Literacy Week Celebration ([link removed]) at Penn State University, the AI Literacy Summit ([link removed]) in New York, MediaWise’s Global Media Literacy Network convenings with the Media & Learning Association ([link removed]) and the National Association of Media Literacy and Education ([link removed]) , and panel participation during NAMLE’s Strengthening Democracy with Media Literacy which is tentatively scheduled to air on C-SPAN tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 10 a.m. Eastern. You can stream the Penn State event ([link removed]) on Wednesday, Oct. 23 — MediaWise presents at 1 p.m. Eastern!
• Connecting with the community on social media through daily campaigns offering media literacy tips and pointing audiences to our educational tools (on LinkedIn ([link removed]) , X ([link removed]) , Instagram ([link removed]) and TikTok ([link removed]) .)
• Publishing Training of Trainers Impact Articles ([link removed]) in collaboration with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) to highlight the ongoing impact of our work reaching local communities across the globe with media literacy skills. Check poynter.org each day this week at 10 a.m. Eastern for the next impact article.
Your support makes these initiatives possible, helping us empower people of all ages with the skills to critically evaluate the information they consume and navigate the internet more safely. Thank you for standing with us in this mission.
We invite you to consider making a gift to support MediaWise here. ([link removed])
