Overcrowding, lack of clean water and sanitation, and widespread destruction of health facilities have caused outbreaks of skin conditions like scabies and rashes, lice — and, for the first time in a quarter-century — polio. Project HOPE team members have been on the ground providing polio vaccines to children, but clinics are running out of medicine and at times are not even able to provide basic health care.
