Spirit Day 2024 was a glorious success! Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters for standing with us against bullying. Your advocacy continues to uplift and empower LGBTQ youth, who feel your unwavering support now more than ever. Spirit Day was a top trending topic across all forms of media, and our message reached people around the world via broadcast, radio, and social media channels. This global reach is a testament to what we can achieve when we stand united and we think that’s truly incredible. GLAAD joined with The Trevor Project, The Ali Forney Center and The Stonewall National Monument Visitor’s Center to kick off Spirit Day by ringing the opening bell at Nasdaq alongside LGBTQ leaders and creators. As the day continued, faith-based organizations, athletes, news networks, talk shows, landmarks and activists all went purple to show support for LGBTQ youth. Activist, actress and GLAAD supporter, Laverne Cox, appeared on The Daily Show to unpack the flood of anti-LGBTQ bills and legislation in the U.S. and expose elected officials for their harmful rhetoric and attitudes toward LGBTQ people. For nearly 40 years, GLAAD has used storytelling to drive change and transform hearts and minds. Along with your help, we are proudly giving LGBTQ youth and their parents a platform, amplifying authentic LGBTQ narratives in the media, and putting a stop to bullying and hate speech online. GLAAD is dedicated to shifting our culture towards LGBTQ equality through the media. Support from friends like you means we can shape a world where young LGBTQ people see themselves fully and accurately reflected — and celebrated — on our televisions, movie screens, advertisements, video games, in sports, and on social media. Thank you for making this work possible. For LGBTQ youth, especially transgender and nonbinary youth, this can make a lifesaving difference. P.S. Spirit Day may only happen once a year, but GLAAD works to make the world a safer place for LGBTQ youth all year long. If you haven't already, take the pledge and join us as we fight tooth and nail until we have 100% acceptance — so that all LGBTQ youth can live their lives in their truth, with authenticity, and free of fear.
