There are good days, and there are bad days. But even on the bad ones, I’m never alone in this fight. I’m blessed to be supported by family of many kinds, and I am forever thankful for every moment we share.
This week has sent too many reminders that life doesn't always turn out how we hope. My heart is heavy with grief for the mothers of two young black men- Ahmaud Arbery (murdered by two white men while jogging) and Sean Reed (murdered after a police chase stemming from reckless driving). For the chosen family of Nina Pop, a black trans woman beloved by her community, killed in Missouri just three days ago. For the families and friends of schoolchildren who have been taken from us in mass shootings. For those who will not get to see their loved ones because they are behind bars, or lost their battles with mental illness or addiction.
I am not just a candidate for Congress. I am a mother running for Congress. And every loss in our community is a loss that I feel personally.
I cannot stand by or stay silent when others are hurting, because it is our relationships that keep us strong. I would not be the woman, mother, activist, or candidate that I am today without the love and kindness shown many have shown me. Now is the time to pay it forward. Please join me in thanking, honoring, and dignifying those in your life who are hurting right now. We are strongest in solidarity.
With love,
